Bespoke Lampshade Making

Lampshade making is a creative craft which has largely become forgotten during recent years.This professional and design led course takes the skill of traditional shade making and combines it with modern contemporary design.

It is not always easy to find ready made shades that work well within a room scheme, frames shapes and fabrics seem predictable as do trims and embellishments. This course looks in to the detail of designing your own frames and choosing fabrics which make a statement and give a feeling of luxe and bespoke creativity.... so for those who enjoy  paying attention to detail, this is a skill worth acquiring.

Participants will produce a medium sized handmade shade using the traditional techniques which involve stretching the fabric (Usually Silk) over the frame using the traditional pinning method and fully lining the shade with what is known as balloon lining. Lampshade design will be discussed; modern, traditional and new directions, as well as proportion and embellishment.

This course is designed for beginners but teaches students to a professional level for possible commercial endeavour. Commercial viability is discussed as well as design ideas that will help students to find their own unique style for their business.
